The Equus International Film Festival and Horse Haven Montana are thrilled to announce A New Vision in Horsemanship – the Partnership Between Horse & Human, taking place in Missoula, Montana from September 11-14.

The New World screwworm, a type of fly larvae that consumes live flesh and is found in Central America, has been spreading northward, causing concern in the United States.

Cases have increased significantly in Panama since 2022 and have now reached Mexican states like Veracruz and Oaxaca.

Texas recently held an informational webinar to discuss the situation.

Factors such as staffing issues, land use changes, and decreased efficacy of preventative measures have contributed to the spread.

In response, the U.S.

has suspended some imports from Mexico and is working on developing a sterile fly facility.

Producers can prevent infestations by following good management practices.
